Sir Henry Brooke to Stand Down as CMC Chair
16th January 2012
Following recent health problems Sir Henry Brooke told the CMC’s Board last week that he would not now be seeking re-election as Chair of the CMC for another term.
Sir Henry said: “I am very sorry about this, because it has been a pleasure and an honour to have led the CMC for the last four years. But everyone tells me that I must put my health first now, and the CMC deserves to have a younger and more energetic Chair to lead it in the very interesting months and years that lie ahead for mediators and mediation providers.”
Bill Wood QC, Vice-Chair, speaking on behalf of the Board, said:“ The CMC’s debt to Sir Henry Brooke is simply immeasurable. He has followed an enormously distinguished career as an advocate and a Judge by, among many other activities, applying his huge political and organisational skills for the benefit of the CMC. He has worked tirelessly and has given prompt and accurate guidance whenever the organisation has needed it. On occasion stormy waters have been navigated with great skill. We cannot thank him enough. The Board will take steps to express the CMC’s gratitude to Sir Henry properly and has begun to consult on the task of finding a successor.”
Sir Henry will stand down as Chair on 23rd February, and Bill Wood QC will act as Chair until the Board appoints a new Chair to replace Sir Henry.
