"The Lord Slynn Prize"
This new memorial award, of £500 together with life membership of the CMC will be bestowed annually in December at the CMC's AGM to the person who has, in the opinion of the officers of the CMC, contributed most notably to the development of mediation in the United Kingdom in the last 12 months.
The award can reflect an individual's specific act, activity, idea, or piece of work, or may reflect a more general contribution in the previous year which may or may not be part of an ongoing commitment. In either case, however, the contribution must be considered by the officers to be outstanding and worthy of specific recognition.
Nominations will be invited each September from members and non-members of the CMC and there is no requirement for the winner to be an existing member of the CMC. The nominations should be submitted by email to the CMC Registrar and will close on 31st October each year. The officers will meet each November to decide the winner which decision will not be communicated to the Board until the awards are made. The officers can also nominate.
The Prize winner will be invited to the AGM for the presentation.
The presentation will each year record the fact that the Prize was endowed by the Board of the CMC for five years to mark the passing in office of Lord Slynn of Hadley, first President of the CMC, a great jurist and voice for mediation.
