The chairman of the CMC Sir Henry Brooke joined members who attended the 3rd National Civil Mediation Conference yesterday in pronouncing it a "triumph". Over 270 mediators and those interested in mediation filled the Plaisterer's Hall in London's Barbican district to hear speeches from leading figures, to listen to an expert panel debate the workplace reforms, and to join in three major debates - on quality, on the workplace revolution, and on matters that went to the heart of the CMC's purpose.

Speakers from diverse backgrounds, from Holland and Scotland, from the workplace and community, from Consumer Focus and the CMC lead stimulating and engrossing sessions. Feedback from questionnaires completed by the delegates was given and once fully analysed will form part of the CMC's consultation process into the future.
Sir Henry paid tribute to the "immense" work of conference organiser Judith Kelbie and the new registrar, Tracey Stewart, in making the day happen. Like the members, they were delighted with the success of what was widely agreed to be the best conference to date. The Board will now consider a date an venue for 2010's confernece which may, after years in Birmingham and London look North.
